Mechanical Tooling Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Onsite in Torrance, California, in the Los Angeles area. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals, lawful permanent residents, refugees, asylees, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. export authorizations.

Salary: $175,000–$250,000 per year, plus equity.

hirify.global is a Series C startup developing mass-producible, inherently safe microreactors for terrestrial, underwater, and space applications.

What you will do

• Own the design, development, fabrication, qualification, implementation, maintenance, and retirement of tooling and ground support equipment for R1 microreactors.
• Develop fixtures, lifting and handling equipment, test stands, transportation fixtures, installation equipment, and specialized mechanical systems.
• Create 3D CAD models, assemblies, production-quality drawings, bills of material, specifications, load requirements, operating limits, and inspection documentation.
• Perform mechanical design and structural analysis covering loads, stability, safety, tolerances, ergonomics, maintainability, and manufacturability.
• Work hands-on with machinists, welders, technicians, suppliers, and engineering teams to fabricate, troubleshoot, commission, and improve tooling.
• Support factory and field operations, integrated testing, deployment, maintenance, removal, and decommissioning planning.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 8+ years of experience designing mechanical hardware, tooling, fixtures, ground support equipment, manufacturing equipment, or similar systems.
• Strong 3D CAD skills and experience producing detailed engineering drawings; Siemens NX is preferred.
• Experience taking mechanical designs from concept through detailed design, fabrication, assembly, and implementation.
• Strong knowledge of tolerance stack-ups, fits, fasteners, structural loading, material selection, and design for manufacturing and assembly.
• Must satisfy U.S. export-control eligibility requirements or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations.

Nice to have

• Experience with ground support equipment, lifting and rigging, transportation fixtures, test stands, deployment equipment, or specialized tooling.
• Experience with structural calculations or finite element analysis for tooling and support structures.
• Familiarity with CNC machining, welding, sheet metal, structural fabrication, additive manufacturing, and commercial off-the-shelf components.
• Experience in aerospace, nuclear, defense, energy, automotive, medical devices, or another regulated and safety-critical industry.
