Mechanical Engineer (Spacecraft)

Salary: $100,000–$130,000 per year

What you will do

• Own spacecraft hardware development from concept through launch and orbital maneuvers.
• Develop primary and secondary structures and critical space mechanisms using first-principles structural design and driving-load analysis.
• Perform and document hand calculations, finite element analysis, and kinematic analysis.
• Develop manufacturing-ready engineering drawings and incorporate machined, formed, welded, composite, and other construction methods.
• Source components, procure materials, fabricate parts, and complete assemblies with internal and external manufacturing partners.
• Plan and support structural qualification and acceptance testing while coordinating assumptions and interfaces with propulsion, electrical, software, controls, and other teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
• At least 2 years of demonstrated mechanical design experience.
• Proficiency with CAD software and the ability to learn new tools.
• Experience modeling complex shapes, including lofting and surfacing.
• Experience with conceptual design, hardware fabrication, testing, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Applicants must be U.S. persons or eligible to obtain an export license under applicable U.S. export regulations, including ITAR and EAR.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
• Mechanical design and analysis experience with space-flown hardware.
• Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, finite element analysis, and basic structural and thermal analysis.
