Automotive Application Engineer (AI)

Location: Fully remote from any European country, including the UK, or hybrid/on-site from offices in Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, or the UK. Relocation is available to Italy or the Netherlands. Priority is given to candidates interested in being based in Belgium or Italy.

What you will do

• Translate automotive market and customer requirements into testable criteria and validate the Axelera stack against them.
• Define and run benchmarks for ADAS perception, surround view, parking, BEV/occupancy, DMS/OMS, and sensor-fusion workloads.
• Port, quantize, optimize, and automate testing of automotive AI workloads on Axelera hardware.
• Identify and close gaps in the toolchain, runtime, operating-system and middleware integrations, determinism, diagnostics, and thermal profiles.
• Contribute to ASIL-B/ASIL-D safety software, diagnostics, monitoring, and customer integration scenarios.
• Own technical work packages, demonstrators, and deliverables in collaborative automotive R&D programs and consortia.

Requirements

• 4–8 years of experience in embedded software or application engineering within automotive or automotive semiconductors.
• Strong embedded C and Python skills for tooling and test automation.
• Experience with real-time systems and safety-qualified development in an ASIL-B/ASIL-D context, including ISO 26262, safety mechanisms, diagnostics, and supporting evidence.
• Embedded development on constrained targets using cross-compilation, trace/debug, CI, MISRA, embedded Linux, and exposure to QNX or AUTOSAR.
• Experience with target-hardware validation, bench or HIL testing, and characterization across the automotive temperature range.
• Fluent English is required; approximately 15% travel is expected for consortium meetings and partner labs.

Nice to have

• Experience with PyTorch, ONNX, embedded model deployment, quantization, or graph compilation.
• Familiarity with computer vision and camera-based automotive perception workloads.
• Experience in collaborative R&D programs such as Horizon Europe, Chips JU, or national programs.
• Experience with AUTOSAR Adaptive, Android Automotive OS, SOME/IP, DDS, MIPI CSI-2, or GMSL/FPD-Link.
• Knowledge of ISO 21434, A-SPICE, vehicle E/E architectures, or an additional European language.
