Wilton Factory Optics Fabrication – Milling, Grinding, and Polishing Group Leader (Optics Manufacturing)

Location: Wilton, Connecticut, United States. Onsite work in a climate-controlled cleanroom on a compressed night schedule: 6:00 PM–6:00 AM on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and every other Saturday.

What you will do

• Lead 15+ optical technicians across milling, grinding, and polishing work centers.
• Plan production schedules, manage resources, solve delivery issues, and create recovery plans.
• Ensure safe, on-time delivery of high-quality precision optics and achievement of production KPIs.
• Coach employees, create performance goals, develop technical competencies, and support cross-training.
• Drive Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives with Production Engineering.
• Manage shift communication, performance reviews, attendance records, company policies, and collaboration with Human Resources.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of supervisory or leadership experience in manufacturing, or 5 years of direct optics fabrication experience.
• 10+ years of experience in a complex manufacturing, production, or operations environment.
• Strong manufacturing operations, Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and structured problem-solving experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering preferred; high school diploma required.
• Experience with Microsoft Outlook 365, SAP or a comparable ERP system, and ISO 9001/ISO 14001 environments.
• Must be legally authorized to access controlled technology under United States export regulations before beginning work.

Nice to have

• Optical, semiconductor, precision manufacturing, or cleanroom experience.
• Direct optical fabrication experience.
• Experience working in an ISO-certified environment.
