Controls Engineer (Power Generation) - Memphis

Location: On-site in Memphis, Tennessee, with potential travel to other facilities; the role includes hands-on work in the plant and control room.

What you will do

• Design, program, commission, and maintain balance-of-plant PLC and HMI systems for fuel gas, water, compressed air, HVAC, cooling, electrical auxiliaries, and related utility systems.
• Build and maintain a unified plant SCADA architecture integrating Solar, 6000, and balance-of-plant systems into one control-room operating view.
• Develop control philosophies, narratives, I/O lists, network drawings, cause-and-effect diagrams, and reusable HMI/SCADA standards.
• Specify control hardware and industrial networks, and define interfaces with OEM turbine controllers, electrical protection, metering, and plant systems.
• Integrate OEM and third-party systems using Modbus, DNP3, OPC UA, IEC 61850, and other industrial protocols.
• Support commissioning and operations through I/O checkout, loop checks, functional testing, alarm rationalization, troubleshooting, configuration management, and start-up support.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, controls engineering, computer engineering, or another engineering discipline.
• At least 3 years of PLC, HMI, and/or SCADA engineering experience in industrial or power-generation systems.
• Hands-on willingness to work in the plant and control room, including during outages and commissioning.
• Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed to support power-generation operations.
• Must be able to work on-site in Memphis, Tennessee.
• Ability to support technicians and remain effective during outages, start-up, and event investigations.

Nice to have

• Five or more years of controls experience at a power plant, independent power producer, OEM, EPC, or heavy industrial facility.
• Experience with gas-turbine or similar-generation balance-of-plant PLC/HMI systems and unified control-room SCADA.
• Familiarity with Ignition, Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, Emerson, GE, SEL, and IT/OT networking.
• Experience across design, programming, construction support, commissioning, and operations, including alarm management and historian systems.
• Professional Engineering license or active progress toward one.
