Systems Engineer (Industrial Automation)

Location: San Jose, CA, USA. The role includes 30–50% travel for client and commissioning work, including local travel and occasional travel throughout North America.

Salary: $110,000–$140,000 per year, plus benefits, bonuses, and additional extra-hours payments.

What you will do

• Engineer and implement real-time automation controls and industrial information solutions.
• Architect integrated systems spanning PLC/PAC logic, SCADA/HMI, networking, MES, data flow, and safety systems.
• Program, debug, troubleshoot, test, and commission solutions across multi-vendor platforms.
• Design and integrate PLC, SCADA, HMI, database, motion-control, vision, and machine-safety systems.
• Create engineering documentation, specifications, proposals, traceability records, and FAT/SAT procedures.
• Gather requirements, communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders, coordinate remote teams, and manage 5–10 concurrent projects.

Requirements

• B.Sc. or upcoming completion in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a related engineering technology discipline.
• 6–8+ years of practical experience with PLCs, SCADA/HMI, networking, databases, motion, safety, or high-level programming.
• Experience with Ignition Vision and Perspective, Allen-Bradley, and/or Beckhoff TwinCAT is strongly preferred; Ignition Vision and Perspective are required in the technology stack.
• Knowledge of PLC/PAC platforms, industrial protocols, SCADA/HMI systems, databases, high-level programming, and automation design.
• Strong analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to varied audiences.
• Valid driver’s license, full-time access to a personal vehicle, and willingness to travel 30–50% as needed.

Nice to have

• Experience with Python, JavaScript, Cognex, Datalogic, Keyence, servo motion platforms, or additional PLC and SCADA ecosystems.
• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Unix, Linux, or legacy Microsoft operating systems.
