MES Controls Engineer (Automotive Manufacturing)

What you will do

• Design and develop Allen-Bradley ControlLogix and GuardLogix PLC programs from the ground up using Studio 5000 and RSLogix 5000.
• Build Ignition HMI/SCADA applications, including screens, tags, scripting, alarms, communications, and system configuration.
• Develop PLC-to-MES transactions for work-order verification, recipes, traceability, production reporting, and pass/fail processing.
• Integrate barcode scanners, RFID systems, Zebra industrial printers, and automated ZPL label-printing workflows.
• Perform startup, debugging, FAT/SAT, commissioning, troubleshooting, and production launch activities.
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineering, IT/MES teams, equipment integrators, and plant personnel while maintaining architecture and commissioning documentation.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/GuardLogix and Studio 5000 or RSLogix 5000.
• Experience writing new PLC programs for equipment, stations, or production lines from scratch.
• Hands-on Inductive Automation Ignition experience, including screens, tags, scripting, or application architecture.
• Experience integrating PLCs with MES or manufacturing information systems and implementing manufacturing transactions.
• Experience commissioning automated manufacturing equipment and troubleshooting controls hardware, PLC software, industrial networks, and production systems.
• Background in automotive or other high-volume discrete manufacturing environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with ZPL, Zebra printers, barcode and RFID-based traceability, Ignition Vision or Perspective, Ethernet/IP, OPC UA, or SQL.
• Experience taking controls projects through design, development, integration, startup, commissioning, and production launch.
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, controls, mechatronics, automation, industrial engineering, or a related discipline.
