Environmental Compliance Specialist (Waste-to-Energy)

Location: Haverhill, Massachusetts, USA, with work at facilities in Lynn and Danvers; routine site presence is required, with approximately 10% day travel to satellite facilities.

What you will do

• Support environmental compliance programs covering air emissions, CEMS, ash, solid waste, stormwater, wastewater, and hazardous waste.
• Participate in permit applications, renewals, modifications, and supporting documentation for facility construction, operation, and expansion.
• Complete and review environmental testing, monitoring, records, data, and regulatory reports.
• Conduct environmental walkdowns, document findings, coordinate corrective actions, and follow them through closure.
• Coordinate testing and compliance activities with consultants, engineers, contractors, laboratories, operations, maintenance teams, and regulatory agencies.
• Monitor regulatory changes, support inspection readiness, and communicate technical compliance matters to operating teams and external stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, biology, or a related scientific discipline; relevant power-plant, industrial-operations, or military experience may substitute.
• At least three years of direct, on-site environmental compliance experience in heavy industry, energy, power generation, waste-to-energy, landfill, transfer-station, recycling, or comparable facility operations.
• Experience with environmental permits, regulatory reports or submissions, facility inspections, corrective-action follow-up, testing, monitoring, and data review.
• Ability to work throughout active industrial facilities, including hot, cold, dusty, noisy, wet, and odorous areas; wear PPE and a respirator; climb ladders; work at heights; and lift heavy objects.
• Experience using environmental or operational data-management tools and Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to meet testing and reporting deadlines across multiple programs and agencies.

Nice to have

• Thermomechanical treatment, power generation, boiler, combustion, air-pollution-control, stack testing, or CEMS experience.
• Experience with transfer stations, landfills, material processing, recycling, or other solid-waste operations.
• Massachusetts environmental compliance or MassDEP experience.
• Hazardous-waste experience, including RCRA and DOT documentation.
• Microsoft Copilot experience.
