OHL Engineering Manager (Power T&D)

What you will do

• Lead the OHL engineering function across 132–400kV EPC schemes and hold technical accountability for design outputs.
• Establish design standards, procedures, quality frameworks, and technical governance from feasibility through construction support and as-built delivery.
• Act as Engineering Authority and senior technical interface for clients including SSE, SPEN, NGED, and National Grid.
• Manage engineering resources, line-manage Senior, Lead, and Intermediate Engineers, and support recruitment and career development.
• Lead technical input to tenders and PQQs, including fee estimates, resource plans, subcontractor reviews, and technical risk management.
• Fulfil Principal Designer duties where appointed and ensure compliance with CDM 2015, client specifications, regulations, and HSSE requirements.

Requirements

• Degree in Electrical, Civil, or Structural Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
• At least 10 years of OHL engineering experience, including significant work on 132kV and/or 400kV transmission and distribution schemes.
• Experience leading multi-engineer OHL design teams in an EPC or design consultancy environment and managing multiple concurrent projects.
• Strong knowledge of UK OHL standards, including BS EN, ENATS 43-8, and client-specific specifications.
• Experience with senior-level client relationships and CDM 2015 Designer or Principal Designer responsibilities.
• Full UK driving licence required.

Nice to have

• Chartered Engineer status with IET, ICE, or an equivalent institution.
• Experience with SSE, SPEN, NGED, or National Grid framework contracts and 400kV transmission OHL delivery.
• Knowledge of OHL foundation engineering, geotechnical inputs, commercial management, and engineering quality systems.
