Backend Engineer (Fintech)

Location: United Kingdom; hybrid role requiring work from the UK office at least 3 days per week

What you will do

• Build backend services and APIs for onboarding, accounts, payments, cards, transfers, rewards, travel, foreign exchange, KYC, and risk flows.
• Design reliable systems supporting customer transactions, operational workflows, and future financial products.
• Integrate internal systems with financial partners, payment providers, AI services, and third-party platforms.
• Own backend quality across reliability, security, latency, observability, data integrity, and incident handling.
• Collaborate with product, frontend, mobile, and AI teams to launch features safely and quickly.
• Improve existing systems by simplifying flows, automating repeatable processes, and removing manual work.

Requirements

• Strong backend engineering experience with production systems used by real customers or internal operations at meaningful scale.
• Good understanding of APIs, databases, authentication, authorization, queues, jobs, events, and integrations.
• Strong debugging, reliability, security, and data quality mindset.
• Ability to balance speed, correctness, scalability, and maintainability.
• Strong English communication is required.
• Must be based in the UK and work from the UK office at least 3 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience in fintech, payments, banking, wallets, KYC, fraud, or risk.
• Personal experience building, shipping, or scaling a serious product, platform, or system.
