Backend Platform Engineer (Fintech)

Location: London, United Kingdom; hybrid

Salary: £106,400–£146,300 annual target base salary, plus equity

What you will do

• Build payment infrastructure across multiple countries, currencies, and regulatory regimes.
• Design scalable multi-currency accounting and reconciliation systems.
• Integrate with international banking systems and payment rails, including SEPA, BACS, and SWIFT.
• Launch new markets from 0 to 1 while scaling existing platforms.
• Collaborate with compliance, product, operations, and external partners on regional requirements.
• Own solutions end to end, from architecture through production reliability and partner integrations.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend or platform engineering experience in high-scale production environments.
• Strong systems design skills and the ability to turn ambiguous requirements into reliable, maintainable solutions.
• Experience with distributed systems, performance optimization, and production reliability.
• Experience working independently in fast-moving, high-ambiguity environments.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience in fintech, payments, or capital markets.
• Knowledge of multi-currency accounting, reconciliation, foreign exchange, and cross-border compliance.
• Experience integrating third-party financial APIs or international banking partners.
• Exposure to international regulatory environments and compliance requirements.
