Back End Engineer (Node.js)

Location: Hybrid in London, with candidates located within +/- 2 hours of UK time

What you will do

• Develop and extend backend web application services.
• Contribute to architecture decisions and build scalable, sustainable products.
• Discover and integrate new technologies and frameworks.
• Support and maintain the existing codebase.
• Use AI tools across the development workflow and share effective techniques with colleagues.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, engineers, QA, and domain experts to deliver customer-focused solutions.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience.
• Strong understanding of Node.js and TypeScript.
• Experience with modern web application development, including APIs, services, architecture, and security.
• Experience with distributed messaging systems such as SQS, RabbitMQ, or Kafka.
• Experience with event-driven and microservice architecture.
• Good spoken and written English and availability within +/- 2 hours of UK time.

Nice to have

• Experience building FX, cash management, or interest rate financial systems.
• Experience developing cloud-native solutions in AWS.
• Experience with infrastructure as code.
• Experience with coding agents and context engineering practices.
