Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA; hybrid, with at least three days per week in the San Francisco office. The team works across EST and PST with at least six hours of overlap with PST, from 8 am to 2 pm PST.

Salary: $210,000–$240,000 USD annual base salary, with potential eligibility for an equity plan.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems, web applications, APIs, and services.
• Develop public APIs for the API Product suite.
• Build shared engineering services and functionality that enable internal business units.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to turn functional visions into clear technical roadmaps and outcomes.
• Develop cross-functional relationships and support internal tools, including triaging customer support requests during the on-call rotation.
• Lead projects as a technical anchor while improving delivery velocity, quality, and overall impact.

Requirements

• Experience designing and building scalable systems, web applications, APIs, and services.
• Understanding of storage systems, including relational databases such as Postgres and analytical databases.
• Ability to understand customer pain points and translate them into technical and product requirements.
• Strong initiative, ownership, prioritization, adaptability, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience collaborating in cross-functional environments with diverse stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Prior Node.js experience is useful, but not required; backend tools and languages can be learned on the job.
