Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Identity International) (Fintech)

Location: Remote UK. The role is remote within the United Kingdom; new hires attend an in-person onboarding experience, and occasional office work may be required.

Salary: £120,000–£168,000 GBP per year, plus potential stipends, benefits, and equity.

What you will do

• Own and deliver quarterly goals while guiding engineers through ambiguous, open-ended backend problems.
• Design and ship identity features for international markets, including KYC, user lifecycle management, and identity decisioning.
• Collaborate with product management, design, analytics, and partner engineering teams on technical decisions, risks, and trade-offs.
• Build and monitor operational metrics, support on-call efforts, and improve system availability and reliability.
• Raise code review and design standards, reduce operational toil, and create practical playbooks.
• Mentor engineers, support new hires and interns, and contribute to technical hiring.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
• Professional experience with Python or Kotlin.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems using technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Ability to define technical plans for significant features or system components and implement elegant, extensible designs.
• Experience making significant changes safely in large codebases and maintaining high-quality, understandable code.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
