Staff AI Engineer (Data & Intelligence function)

What you will do

• Write, ship, and maintain production AI code as an active individual contributor.
• Build semantic retrieval, indexing, and knowledge graph capabilities that resolve customers and retrieve complete context from the data platform.
• Develop inference models and signal processors over an Iceberg-based lakehouse, writing scored results back and exposing them through reusable contracts.
• Turn signals such as churn risk, entitlement mismatches, and expansion opportunities into workflows with appropriate human review.
• Select large models, fine-tuned models, or deterministic code for each workload while managing inference costs.
• Own evaluation, tracing, observability, and engineering patterns for AI systems used by multiple teams.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years shipping AI or ML systems to production.
• Strong programming fundamentals and deep proficiency in at least one AI or data language, with Python as the primary ML language.
• Advanced SQL, a transformation layer such as dbt, and experience with distributed query engines over lakehouse or warehouse storage.
• Production experience with embeddings, vector search, hybrid or graph retrieval, entity modelling, and context engineering.
• Production agentic systems and durable workflows involving tool calling, state, memory, and human-in-the-loop patterns.
• Experience with AI evaluation and observability, AWS cloud deployment, containerized services, and inference-cost ownership; a B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience building shared data or ML capabilities for other engineering teams.
• Small and fine-tuned model development, model distillation, and high-volume observability data using OpenTelemetry.
• Data governance experience covering access control, lineage, and data residency.
• Enterprise SaaS or CMS experience, including Drupal-based digital experience platforms.
• Experience with AI-assisted coding tools, MCP, and presenting AI system designs to engineering and executive stakeholders.
