Forward Deployed AI Engineer (AI)

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada — hybrid, with 3 days per week in the office

Base salary: CAD $145,000–$170,000 per year, excluding annual bonus and equity where applicable.

What you will do

• Embed with Operations, Finance, Human Resources, Legal, and other functions to understand systems, KPIs, workflows, and pain points.
• Identify and prioritize high-value AI opportunities based on impact, effort, and risk.
• Prototype and ship AI-native applications using LLMs, retrieval, agentic workflows, and AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code.
• Build bespoke applications on AWS and evaluate build-versus-buy trade-offs, including automation and orchestration platforms such as n8n.
• Translate business needs into technical requirements, define success metrics, and build credible ROI cases for non-technical stakeholders.
• Drive adoption, train users, measure post-launch impact, and share effective patterns across the Technology & Data Strategy team.

Requirements

• 6–10 years of experience across software engineering, analytics, strategy, finance, or product, including at least 3 years of hands-on AI or AI-enabled application development.
• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative, business, or technical field.
• Production experience shipping LLM applications, retrieval systems, or agentic workflows from prototype to real users.
• Hands-on experience with n8n or a comparable automation platform, AWS application development, GitHub pull requests, testing, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, monitoring, staged rollouts, and rollback practices.
• Strong SQL, data modeling, Excel, modern BI tools, and the ability to work with messy real-world data.
• Strong financial and commercial judgment, plus the ability to communicate technical decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree.
• Forward-deployed engineering, solutions engineering, hands-on consulting, or production AI experience in real business environments.
