Specialist, EHS Staff

Location: North Chicago, Illinois, United States; onsite

Salary: USD $65,500–$125,500 annually

What you will do

• Provide EHS guidance and support to manufacturing, engineering, maintenance, operations, R&D, contractors, and site functions.
• Conduct risk assessments, identify workplace hazards, and recommend controls using hierarchy-of-controls principles.
• Support high-risk work programs covering LOTO, confined spaces, fall protection, hot work, line breaking, machine and electrical safety, and lifting operations.
• Develop, implement, maintain, and improve EHS programs, procedures, standards, training materials, and operational controls.
• Investigate injuries, illnesses, near misses, and high-potential incidents; track corrective actions and verify effectiveness.
• Conduct inspections and audits, support regulatory interactions, analyze performance indicators, and review management-of-change and pre-startup safety activities.

Requirements

• High school diploma plus 10 years of relevant EHS experience; or an associate degree and Advanced Safety Specialist Certification plus 8 years; or a bachelor’s degree in EHS, engineering, or chemistry plus 3 years.
• Experience implementing EHS regulations, conducting incident investigations, interacting with regulatory agencies, and managing cross-functional teams.
• Technical expertise in EHS, policy and standard development, technical writing, business communication, and project management.
• Ability to build effective stakeholder relationships, resolve conflicts, organize workflows, and communicate clearly in writing and presentations.
• Proficiency with email, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and databases.

Nice to have

• Professional EHS or engineering certification.
