Staff Software Engineer - Front End/ Back End

Location: Remote within the United States; periodic travel to collaborate with and present to clients, partners, and stakeholders may be required.

Salary: $150,000–$165,000 per year

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership for the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of complex backend applications and services.
• Plan technical roadmaps and lead architecture, system design, API design, and technology selection decisions.
• Design and maintain REST APIs, microservices, event-driven architectures, and scalable, secure, reliable solutions.
• Translate product and business needs into technical solutions in partnership with product, design, engineering, clients, and stakeholders.
• Improve engineering standards through documentation, refactoring, automated testing, code reviews, and technical risk reduction.
• Mentor engineers, present technical recommendations, participate in interviews, and support client-facing technical discussions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 9+ years of software engineering experience; relevant experience may substitute for education.
• Expert-level backend engineering experience and technical leadership on complex software development efforts.
• Extensive production experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience designing, developing, and integrating REST APIs and microservices.
• Experience designing scalable, maintainable, and reliable software solutions.
• Experience providing technical guidance and mentorship to engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience with Python, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, AWS, ECS, Lambda, Docker, Terraform, GitLab, Maven, or Poetry.
• Experience with event-driven and distributed systems, automated testing, application security, observability, performance optimization, and production troubleshooting.
• Experience delivering software in federal government or public-sector environments.
• Experience with technical solutioning, demonstrations, or client-facing engineering discussions.
