Staff Software Engineer (Advertising)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; in-office

Annual salary: $143,000–$286,000, plus performance-based bonuses and possible stock compensation.

What you will do

• Design, develop, debug, and operate advertising products and platform capabilities for desktop and mobile web.
• Lead Ads API microservices delivering display, sponsored, and search ads.
• Drive advertising platform orchestration, arbitration, scalability, latency, and decision-quality improvements.
• Set technical direction and architecture standards for quality, observability, reliability, testing, and operational excellence.
• Contribute to a reusable Ads UI/component library using adaptive web experiences.
• Optimize ad inventory, analyze advertising metrics, run experiments, and own delivery across design, implementation, testing, release, and production operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area plus 4 years of software engineering experience; or 6 years of software engineering or related experience.
• Experience designing and implementing REST and GraphQL services with Node.js and Java.
• Experience building UI components and user experiences with React, Next.js, and/or Svelte, plus frontend engineering with TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, responsive design, and cross-browser compatibility.
• Experience deploying scalable microservices to cloud platforms such as Azure or GCP using Kubernetes.
• Experience with MySQL, complex SQL, and analytics data such as BigQuery.
• Experience with troubleshooting and performance analysis tools such as Splunk and Dynatrace.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines and release automation with Docker, Maven, Webpack, and npm.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks such as Jest, JUnit, and Mockito, along with strong engineering-quality practices.
• Experience with high-scale ad serving, marketplace/e-commerce, or real-time decisioning systems; experimentation platforms; statistical interpretation of A/B tests; SLOs/SLIs, alerting, incident response, and post-incident learning.
• Staff-level scope includes setting technical direction across multiple teams, mentoring senior engineers, influencing architecture and standards, and owning ambiguous problems through measurable outcomes.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area plus 2 years of software engineering experience.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility best practices.
