Staff Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; onsite

Base pay: $202,500–$274,000 annually; cash bonus, equity rewards, and benefits may also apply.

What you will do

• Architect and develop web, software, mobile applications, prototypes, and proofs of concept for a payroll product.
• Gather functional requirements, produce technical specifications, and lead project and test planning.
• Act as a technical subject matter expert, mentor engineers, and lead a small team through challenging programming and design problems.
• Design and ship AI features and agents that simplify business workflows.
• Write technical documentation and presentations, resolve defects across QA through post-release patches, and communicate architectural options.
• Work cross-functionally with product management, QA/QE, product lines, and business units using Agile, Scrum, or Extreme Programming practices.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience designing, architecting, and developing high-impact web and software applications as a Senior Full-Stack Engineer, plus a BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Expert-level proficiency in React, TypeScript, JavaScript, and GraphQL, with strong backend experience building enterprise applications using Java and Spring Boot.
• Proven experience building and integrating AI features and agents to automate complex workflows and improve application intelligence.
• Full-lifecycle SDLC expertise and a deep commitment to high engineering standards, software architecture, Test-Driven Development, clean code, and operational excellence.
• Demonstrated success as a technical go-to person and cross-functional leader, including setting team vision, facilitating collaboration, and attracting, developing, and retaining talent.
• Strategic thinking, strong business acumen and partnership skills, and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• History of strong delivery against assigned tasks and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
