Principal, Building Envelope

Location: New York market, with regional and national travel required

Salary: $190,000–$240,000 annually plus annual bonus and comprehensive benefits

What you will do

• Lead complex building enclosure consulting projects involving façades, roofing, waterproofing, fenestration, specialty cladding systems, and rehabilitation.
• Direct forensic investigations, condition assessments, design reviews, peer reviews, technical evaluations, commissioning, quality assurance, and remediation strategies.
• Provide senior technical oversight, review reports and specifications, and ensure compliance with building codes, ASTM, AAMA, NFRC, and related standards.
• Build executive-level relationships with clients, architects, developers, owners, and industry partners.
• Drive proposals, presentations, contract negotiations, strategic pursuits, practice growth, financial performance, and new service opportunities.
• Mentor technical staff, support recruiting and leadership development, and establish technical standards and quality-control procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Building Science, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in building envelope consulting, design, or a related field.
• Professional Engineer, Registered Architect, or equivalent professional licensure required.
• Expertise in new construction, building enclosure systems, forensic investigations, rehabilitation, commissioning, and construction consulting.
• Experience leading complex consulting projects, managing executive-level client relationships, developing business, and overseeing practice financial performance and staff leadership.
• Ability to travel regionally and nationally as required.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Building Science, Architectural Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Certifications such as RRC, RRO, RBEC, or LEED AP.
• Expert witness experience in construction litigation or insurance matters.
• Leadership in professional organizations such as IIBEC, ASTM, AAMA, or NIBS.
• Experience with historic preservation, adaptive reuse, landmark restoration, new service lines, or regional market growth.
