Senior Staff Quantum Scientist (Quantum Computing)

What you will do

• Lead experimental research and technical direction for future-generation quantum systems.
• Prototype and characterize coherent control schemes for trapped-ion qubits using laser and microwave fields.
• Drive system-level benchmarking and optimization for performance, stability, and ultra-low error rates.
• Validate and integrate trap technologies such as on-chip electronics and photonics for scalable architectures.
• Design, debug, and execute experiments on current quantum hardware.
• Mentor junior scientists and represent hirify.global at conferences and external collaborations.

Requirements

• PhD in physics or a closely related discipline, or equivalent education and practical experience.
• At least seven years of post-PhD experience in academia or industry, or equivalent relevant research experience.
• Hands-on experience in quantum control, including qubit calibration, benchmarking, or coherent control.
• Strong foundation in atomic, AMO, or qubit-related physics and practical skills in control software, hardware integration, or experimental data analysis.
• Strong programming and data analysis skills, with the ability to lead projects autonomously and guide junior scientists.
• U.S. Person status or applicable authorization/license may be required for access to export-controlled technology and government-contract work.

Nice to have

• Deep experience in AMO physics or quantum computing.
• Experience with spectroscopy, multilevel-system simulation, control hardware characterization, gate-fidelity benchmarking, or running algorithms on quantum hardware.
• Trapped-ion experience, cross-team collaboration, mentoring, and communicating scientific results through publications, talks, or conferences.
