Quantum Scientist, Government Programs (QEC)

Location: College Park, Maryland, US; hybrid role with travel within the US and occasional travel to the UK

Salary: $120,000–$175,000 per year, depending on experience

What you will do

• Conduct hands-on research for government-funded quantum error correction programs, including simulation, data analysis, and performance evaluation.
• Design and execute quantum computing experiments with partners using hirify.global’s DeltaKit software and tools across varied qubit architectures.
• Support program milestones through technical reports, sponsor updates, funding proposals, and milestone documentation.
• Deploy quantum applications and QEC-related solutions in partner environments, investigate results, diagnose issues, and resolve them with internal research and product teams.
• Present research findings at partner meetings, workshops, conferences, and internal forums.
• Contribute to internal quantum computing and quantum error correction research projects.

Requirements

• PhD in physics, experimental physics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, or a related field; recent graduates are welcome.
• Research experience in quantum computing and experience designing, running, and analyzing experiments or simulations with research-grade tools.
• Interest in quantum error correction and applying research in real-world settings.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting or discussing technical work with partners and external stakeholders.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.
• Must be able to obtain a US government security clearance if required and be willing to travel within the US, including to partner and national laboratory sites, with occasional travel to the UK.

Nice to have

• Experience in quantum error correction, government-funded research, national laboratories, or government research facilities.
• Familiarity with qubit architectures and their quantum error correction considerations.
• Strong software skills in Python or C++ and experience with large-scale simulation or data analysis.
• Experience contributing to technical reports, grant proposals, milestone documentation, technical sales, or external customer support.
