Lead Infrastructure Engineer (GCP)

Location: United States — Remote. Candidates based in the Austin or Atlanta metro areas follow a hybrid model with three days per week in the office.

Salary: $110,000–$186,000 annual base salary, with possible variable compensation, equity, and benefits according to local policies.

What you will do

• Design and operate large-scale, multi-data-center infrastructure across on-premises hardware, GCP, and AWS.
• Lead infrastructure deployment automation and configuration management, including migration from legacy tooling to Terraform, Puppet, and Ansible.
• Design and maintain traffic management, load balancing, and DNS systems at scale.
• Build and operate monitoring and observability systems across on-premises and cloud environments.
• Develop tooling for distributed, auditable systems administration and maintain infrastructure documentation, policies, and procedures.
• Set technical direction, lead infrastructure projects, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• 10+ years of infrastructure or systems engineering experience with direct operational ownership of production systems.
• Experience remotely managing physical hardware infrastructure in colocation facilities.
• Deep Linux systems administration experience at scale, including Red Hat, Debian, or similar systems.
• Hands-on experience with Cisco hardware, DNS, load balancing, traffic management, enterprise storage, and backup systems.
• Proven infrastructure automation experience with Ansible, Puppet, or similar tools, plus proficiency in Python or a similar language.
• Production experience with GCP Compute Engine, networking, storage, and IAM, along with demonstrated project leadership and mentoring ability.

Nice to have

• Experience migrating on-premises workloads to public cloud.
• Experience with distributed monitoring and logging stacks such as Grafana and Prometheus.
• Experience with Kubernetes or GKE.
• Experience mentoring and leading junior engineers.
