Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco or New York City, United States

Salary: $200,000–$300,000 annual base salary, plus equity

What you will do

• Lead and grow a platform engineering team through goal-setting, coaching, feedback, hiring, and high technical standards.
• Set priorities with application, AI, data, security, and product teams based on engineering impact.
• Improve the reliability, scalability, security, and operational performance of production services while managing infrastructure cost.
• Guide architecture and contribute directly to platform code, infrastructure, automation, and incident response.
• Build an AI-native engineering environment with agent-ready repositories, clear interfaces, automated validation, reusable workflows, and operational guardrails.
• Track delivery speed, CI performance, reliability, self-service adoption, and operational load while turning incident follow-up into durable improvements.

Requirements

• Experience managing and developing platform, infrastructure, or developer productivity engineers.
• Strong technical background with the ability to contribute production code, infrastructure, and automation.
• Experience improving developer environments, CI/CD, observability, service templates, or internal engineering tools.
• Daily experience using coding agents and sound judgment about where automation helps and where human review remains essential.
• Experience hiring, coaching, giving direct feedback, and helping engineers grow, with clear communication across engineering and company leadership.
• Typically eight or more years of engineering experience, including two or more years managing engineers; equivalent evidence of impact is valued over an exact title or tool match.

• Experience with AI infrastructure, regulated systems, disaster recovery, or high-traffic applications.
