Engineering Director, Storage

Location: San Mateo, California, United States; office presence required Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday

What you will do

• Own the technical strategy, architecture, roadmap, delivery, and operation of storage systems.
• Lead distributed databases, caches, message queues, object storage, and encryption infrastructure.
• Scale the storage platform from nearly one exabyte to multi-exabyte deployments while maintaining reliability and efficiency.
• Partner with Data Platform, Infrastructure, and product engineering teams to align storage capabilities with technical and business needs.
• Build, grow, and retain a world-class storage engineering organization and develop technical leaders.
• Define reliability standards, on-call practices, incident response, and participate in critical incident rotations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 10+ years of experience in storage, infrastructure, or distributed systems, including hands-on development and operation of custom database systems.
• Depth in several areas including caching systems, object storage, message queues, or data streaming.
• 5+ years of engineering leadership experience managing teams delivering critical production-scale systems.
• Experience building reliable, highly available systems at significant scale, including millions of users or petabyte-scale data.
• Strong operational judgment, cross-functional collaboration skills, and comfort working through ambiguity.
