Complex Claims Specialist - General Liability (Construction Defect)

Location: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Manhattan, Scottsdale, or West Hartford, United States. The role is primarily hybrid with in-office attendance at least two days per week for candidates near an office; qualified remote candidates will also be considered.

Salary: $115,000–$135,000 per year, plus performance-based bonus.

What you will do

• Adjudicate assigned complex claims within granted authority and pursue early settlement opportunities for construction defect and third-party property damage claims.
• Draft and review coverage analyses, including coverage triggers, time-on-risk allocation, and ACV versus RCV property damage assessments.
• Manage local defense counsel, monitor litigation, and drive effective deployment and utilization of legal resources.
• Assess claim exposures and reserve adequacy while applying liability theories and state-specific negligence standards.
• Attend mediations and settlement conferences, identify suspected fraud, and coordinate with the special investigations unit.
• Maintain accurate claim files and collaborate daily with insureds, brokers, claims management, underwriting, and actuarial teams.

Requirements

• 10+ years of claims handling experience in general liability and bodily injury.
• Expert knowledge of coverage in the relevant specialty and of litigation processes and negotiation.
• Proven ability to improve outcomes for high-severity claims through investigation, negotiation, and litigation leadership.
• Demonstrated experience mentoring others, with advanced analytical and strong written and verbal communication skills.
• A B.A./B.S. degree is preferred; a JD from an ABA-accredited law school may supplement claims handling experience.
