Senior Network Engineer (Satellite Communications)

Location: Hybrid in Harwell, UK; Athens, Greece; Barcelona, Spain; or Porto, Portugal. Legal right to work in the chosen location is required.

What you will do

• Implement and customise Segment Routing, including SR-MPLS and SRv6, and IS-IS for dynamic LEO network topologies.
• Develop and integrate custom onboard router platforms using specialised hardware and modern network operating systems.
• Integrate control-plane and forwarding-plane functions for high-throughput packet processing.
• Build large-scale network simulations and Digital Twin environments to validate behaviour under orbital dynamics.
• Validate forwarding performance, protocol convergence, resilience, and stability during failures.
• Support mobility, seamless user-terminal handovers, prototyping, testing, and roadmap evolution.

Requirements

• Strong understanding of Segment Routing, SR-MPLS and/or SRv6, and IS-IS.
• Experience implementing and customising routing behaviour in dynamic, distributed networks.
• Knowledge of SONiC, FRRouting, control-plane and data-plane architectures, and hardware forwarding integration.
• Understanding of throughput, latency, PPS performance, hardware acceleration, and specialised SoC-FPGA networking platforms.
• Experience building and operating large-scale network simulation and emulation environments.
• Knowledge of network resilience, convergence, mobility management, seamless handover strategies, and the effect of orbital dynamics on LEO networks.
