Associate Senior Claim Counsel (Insurance)

Location: New York City, United States; travel to mediations, settlement conferences, trials, depositions, field offices, and business meetings is required.

Annual base salary: $126,500–$208,700, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What you will do

• Investigate, analyze, evaluate, and resolve moderate-severity Bond & Specialty Insurance claims and related litigation.
• Manage outside counsel, vendors, litigation budgets, incident response plans, and settlement negotiations.
• Prepare loss development, financial exposure, coverage evaluation, and resolution strategy reports.
• Support underwriting through legal advice, indemnity documentation, product forms, endorsements, contracts, bond forms, and risk management activities.
• Coordinate recovery efforts, attend mediations, conferences, trials, and depositions, and communicate with stakeholders throughout the claims process.
• Monitor industry trends, contribute to strategic initiatives, and mentor entry-level claim professionals.

Requirements

• Six or more years of relevant legal or claim-handling experience; at least three years of relevant legal experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctor Degree.
• Active authorization and good standing to practice law in the jurisdiction where the work is performed.
• Insurance Adjuster License(s) must generally be obtained within three months of starting, with continuing education required.
• Strong negotiation, conflict-resolution, communication, decision-making, organization, and analytical skills.
• Valid driver’s license or access to alternative transportation for required travel.
