Lead Engineer - Instrumentation & Controls (Gas Power Generation)

Location: Remote with travel to client offices, project sites, and utility offices; travel is estimated at up to 25% pre-construction and 70% during construction.

Salary: $121,680–$176,436 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, and internal equity.

What you will do

• Develop and review instrumentation and controls designs for gas plants, reciprocating engines, gas turbines, and balance-of-plant systems.
• Design and verify equipment protection, controls hardware, logic, redundancy, winterization, control loop diagrams, instrument loop diagrams, and controls narratives.
• Lead integration of DCS systems, OEM controllers, communication protocols, controller interfaces, and data historian points.
• Support commissioning activities including plant startup, first fire, synchronization, performance testing, controls testing, and issue escalation.
• Coordinate with owners, utilities, vendors, engineering firms, internal electrical teams, procurement, preconstruction, and operations.
• Mentor junior engineers and support internal instrumentation and controls standards, design bases, constructability reviews, and contract reviews.

Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive engineering experience in instrumentation and controls design for industrial projects, preferably power generation.
• 5+ years of experience with instrumentation, controls, communications specification, procurement, installation, and commissioning.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited college, or relevant equivalent industry experience.
• Knowledge of reciprocating engines, gas turbines, balance-of-plant equipment, and power generation engineering standards.
• Experience with communication protocols such as MODBUS, ProfiBus, and Foundation FieldBus, plus instrumentation programming and calibration.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with owners, vendors, employees, and third-party engineering firms.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineering (PE) license.
• Experience with Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems and Selective Catalytic Reduction emissions control systems.
• Experience with vibration monitoring, transformer monitoring, and commissioning of balance-of-plant equipment.
