Principal Engineer - Thermal Projects

Location: US, Louisville, Colorado, or remote from the hirify.global US Renewables & Power offices; up to 25% travel to project locations and partner offices.

Salary: $145,000–$181,050 per year, plus annual bonus and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead engineering activities for thermal power generation projects in development, construction, and operation.
• Manage engineering consultants and EPC contractors through design development, construction drawings, RFIs, submittals, and technical reviews.
• Prepare contract exhibits, engineering service proposals, procurement specifications, and owner-furnished equipment requirements.
• Support construction, quality assurance and control, commissioning, performance testing, commercial operation, and resolution of technical issues at operating sites.
• Evaluate equipment guarantees, reliability, availability, heat rate, emissions, fuel systems, interconnection requirements, and project design assumptions.
• Mentor engineers, lead technical evaluations of emerging thermal technologies, and drive process improvements and institutional change.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in engineering, preferably mechanical engineering, or an equivalent technical field.
• 10+ years of professional experience in energy system design, project or land development, and/or construction, including 5+ years in project management, consulting, or project engineering.
• Engineering design experience with thermal generation facilities, including gas turbines, RICE, combined-cycle and simple-cycle plants, cogeneration systems, HRSGs, steam turbines, and balance-of-plant systems.
• Ability to assess technical decisions against cost, schedule, constructability, operability, maintainability, and project risk.
• Experience managing consultants, vendors, EPC contractors, and cross-functional stakeholders in a remote or distributed team environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and direct project experience with Procore.

Nice to have

• Graduate degree in engineering or EIT/PE qualifications.
• Knowledge of thermal power plant codes, standards, air permitting, emissions compliance, environmental regulations, generator interconnection, and grid compliance.
• Experience with natural gas and LNG infrastructure, BESS, microgrids, renewable integration, data center power, or substation and high-voltage design.
• Experience with ETAP, SKM, AspenTech, GT PRO, Thermoflow, AutoCAD Civil3D, or similar modeling and engineering tools.
• Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese.
