Director of Product and Design

Location: Remote within the United States, New York City, or Oakland, CA. Remote hires are limited to the United States; occasional travel to state partners, team gatherings, and offsites is expected.

Compensation: $201,250.

What you will do

• Lead and develop a team of product managers, product designers, senior individual contributors, and emerging leaders.
• Set product direction, strategic context, priorities, roadmaps, and intuitive user workflows across a growing product portfolio.
• Drive product-market-impact fit, weekly active usage, sustainable growth, and expansion of effective tools to additional states.
• Build cross-functional trust with engineering, data science, state engagement, marketing, government leaders, frontline staff, and justice-impacted people.
• Improve product operations, shared UI standards, feedback loops, reusable components, and state deployment velocity.
• Model AI-assisted workflows for discovery, scoping, and prototyping while maintaining product rigor and user empathy.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in product management or design, including at least 3 years managing product managers and/or designers.
• Experience coaching product managers and designers toward management readiness and leading both senior individual contributors and emerging leaders.
• Strong communication, relationship-building, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills in ambiguous, complex environments.
• Ability to build trust with multiple stakeholders and use grounded, trauma-informed discovery practices.
• Ability and willingness to travel approximately once per quarter.
• Must be eligible to work remotely from the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.
