Applied Data & Software Engineer (AI/ML)

What you will do

• Design, build, and deploy analytical tools, machine learning workflows, knowledge systems, and multi-user applications.
• Develop Python-based natural language processing workflows for text analytics, topic modeling, embedding-based classification, and entity extraction.
• Build network analysis and knowledge graph systems, including GraphRAG-like architectures for multi-source analytics.
• Develop collaborative TypeScript front-end applications for real-time planning and decision environments.
• Build APIs, integrate data feeds, and support end-to-end data application pipelines in secure JavaScript environments.
• Provide technical support and documentation while adapting solutions to Joint Staff mission requirements in partnership with customer personnel.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, engineering, information systems, mathematics, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience.
• At least 4 years of Python development experience, including application development and Git-based version management, or at least 4 years of front-end TypeScript experience with multi-user production deployments plus 2 years of Python experience.
• Experience working in new or ambiguous environments with minimal supervision.
• Active TS/SCI clearance with SCI eligibility is required before starting.
• On-site work in Arlington, Virginia is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with NLP libraries and frameworks such as Transformers, spaCy, or Hugging Face.
• Experience with graph databases, GraphML, or graph-centered analytics tools.
• Experience deploying software in secure or classified environments.
• Experience adapting engineering methods to operational or analytical workflows.
• Knowledge of Department of Defense data architectures, decision processes, or operational planning cycles.
