Applied Data Scientist (AI Data Platforms)

Location: McLean, VA, United States. Preference is given to candidates local to the Washington, DC metro area. U.S. citizenship is required, and the role requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance.

What you will do

• Build, configure, and operate an AI-assisted platform for understanding, governing, and moving complex enterprise data.
• Translate mission and customer data questions into objectives, success measures, and evaluation criteria.
• Profile, clean, characterize, validate, and reconcile complex multi-source data.
• Maintain metadata, data dictionaries, reference vocabularies, knowledge graphs, and semantic data models.
• Configure and evaluate AI-assisted matching, classification, ranking, validation, language-model, and agent workflows.
• Partner with data, software, and cloud engineers to deliver reproducible, measurable improvements into production.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, mathematics, statistics, engineering, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
• 5+ years of experience applying statistics, machine learning, data analysis, or related quantitative methods to real-world problems.
• Strong Python and SQL skills with pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, or comparable data science libraries.
• Experience with knowledge graphs, graph data modeling, ontologies, taxonomies, language models, or AI-assisted workflows.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance.
• Ability to create clear visualizations, narratives, and briefings for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with Neo4j, Cypher, vector search, embeddings, RAG, LangGraph, or other AI agent frameworks.
• Experience with entity resolution, record linkage, enterprise data migration, ETL, ERP or HR systems.
• Knowledge of time-series analysis, anomaly detection, model monitoring, drift analysis, and cloud data or ML services.
• Experience with human-in-the-loop AI, experiment tracking, segmented networks, or formal authorization environments.
• Active Public Trust Clearance and relevant data science, machine learning, cloud, or analytics certification.
