TL;DR
Software Developer 1 (Canada Tax Content): Building and maintaining Canadian tax products by translating defined tax requirements into functional tax logic with an accent on C#, C++, Java, AI-assisted development, and tax content accuracy. Focus on researching tax issues, validating AI-generated code through automated and manual testing, and debugging defects using logs, metrics, and traces.

Location: Toronto, Canada

Base pay: CAD 94,000–127,000 per year, plus potential cash bonus, equity rewards, and benefits.

What you will do

  • Research and analyze well-defined Canadian tax issues under senior guidance.
  • Translate scoped tax requirements into functional tax logic using C#, C++, or Java.
  • Orchestrate AI agents for code generation by writing prompts and structuring context files.
  • Write reusable code, participate in code reviews, and validate functionality through unit tests, TDD practices, and manual testing.
  • Investigate defects using logs, metrics, and traces, applying structured debugging techniques and AI assistants.
  • Participate in compliance discussions, Agile/Scrum ceremonies, and planning with product owners, engineers, and tax analysts.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Computer Science and/or Tax, equivalent experience, or recent graduation.
  • 1–2 years of software development experience in C#, C++, and/or Java, including object-oriented design fundamentals.
  • 1–2 years of tax research, analysis, or tax preparation experience.
  • Understanding of software engineering fundamentals and the software development lifecycle.
  • Exposure to unit testing and willingness to learn Test-Driven Development.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort using AI coding assistants while validating generated code before committing.

Nice to have

  • Foundational knowledge of Canadian federal and provincial tax law.
  • Experience with Agile development, Scrum, or programming methodologies.
