TL;DR
Quality Engineering Intern (Manufacturing): Supporting quality systems and manufacturing improvement at heavy-duty truck and engine production facilities with an accent on production data analysis, defect investigation, and quality documentation. Focus on conducting root cause analysis, developing corrective actions, supporting ISO 9001 audits, and improving process capability on the shop floor.

Location: Onsite in Detroit, MI; Hibbing, MN; Kentwood/Grand Rapids, MI; or Tooele, UT. Applicants must be located in or willing to relocate to one of these locations.

Salary: $21–$29 per hour, based on anticipated graduation year.

What you will do

  • Analyze warranty, defect, and manufacturing data to identify trends and root causes.
  • Investigate nonconformances and production defects and support corrective and preventive actions.
  • Apply 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, and Pareto Analysis in quality investigations.
  • Develop and update work instructions, control plans, and PFMEAs.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams on continuous improvement projects.
  • Support internal audits, ISO 9001 compliance, shop-floor quality activities, reporting, and presentations to plant leadership.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related Engineering, or graduated within one year of the May/June start date.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and quality principles.
  • Ability to interpret data and identify trends using Excel or similar tools.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders in a team environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work permanently in the United States; visa sponsorship and applications from existing visa holders are not accepted.
