TL;DR
Systems Engineer Intern - St. Pete Site (Aerospace): Supporting the development, integration, verification, certification, and sustainment of aerospace recorder products with an accent on requirements analysis, system testing, and safety-critical aviation systems. Focus on developing test procedures, analyzing results, investigating defects, and supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions.

Location: St. Petersburg, Florida, United States; full-time onsite internship from May through August

Develops aerospace recorder products and related technologies, including safety-critical aviation systems.

What you will do

  • Support systems engineers with recorder products and related aerospace systems.
  • Develop and review system requirements, specifications, interface definitions, and design documentation.
  • Prepare test procedures, test scripts, verification plans, and validation documentation.
  • Execute functional, environmental, integration, and system-level testing and analyze results.
  • Investigate defects and unexpected product behavior, supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Software, Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Quality, Certification, and Program Engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least two years of undergraduate study completed before the internship begins.
  • Foundational knowledge of engineering development, requirements, testing, debugging, and problem-solving.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, communication, technical writing, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and complete assigned work with appropriate independence.
  • Ability to work full-time onsite at the assigned hirify.global location and qualify as a US Person under U.S. export control laws.

Nice to have

  • Systems engineering lifecycle processes, requirements traceability, system architecture, interface definition, or MBSE.
  • Verification, validation, certification, integration, troubleshooting, environmental testing, or reliability testing.
  • Configuration management, change control, defect investigation, root cause analysis, test automation, or scripting.
  • Aerospace electronics, avionics, embedded systems, flight data recorders, cockpit voice recorders, or aircraft data acquisition systems.
  • Knowledge of DO-178, DO-254, ARINC, FAA, EASA, or other aerospace standards and processes.
