Senior Project Engineer - Capital Projects (Steel)

Location: Cleveland, Ohio, or Saukville, Wisconsin, United States. Hybrid schedule with at least two onsite office days per week and approximately 40% annual travel to Charter Steel facilities, conferences, and training.

What you will do

• Lead multiple capital projects from initial definition and development through budgeting, design, execution, commissioning, startup, and closeout.
• Manage complex Greenfield, Brownfield, expansion, modernization, acquisition, and asset-relocation projects across Charter Steel facilities.
• Develop and validate business cases covering ROI, NPV, production capacity, operating costs, risks, acquisitions, and strategic growth opportunities.
• Coordinate Plant Managers, Operations leaders, engineering teams, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders to deliver effective engineering solutions.
• Lead cross-functional teams and influence decisions across organizational levels without direct authority.
• Follow environmental, quality, and safety management system procedures while supporting operational and growth objectives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Seven or more years of operational management experience with direct project management responsibility.
• Proven success leading multiple capital projects of varying scope and complexity through the full project lifecycle.
• Advanced experience with capital equipment procurement and detailed RFQ generation.
• Strong analytical, communication, coaching, influencing, leadership, and critical-thinking skills.
• Authorization to work for any employer in the United States is required; employment visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in a technical discipline or PMP, CPM, or related project management certification.
• Advanced knowledge of industrial automation, hydraulics, pneumatics, combustion, machining, and mechanical systems.
• Experience developing and integrating plant MES systems.
• Steel industry or other heavy-industry experience.
• Supervisory experience in engineering or maintenance.
