Space Systems Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: On-site in Chantilly, Virginia, United States. Minimal travel of less than 25% to contractor facilities, test sites, or launch locations. Flexible working hours support standard Government work hours and surge periods during integration and launch phases.

Salary: $135,000–$203,000 USD annually

What you will do

• Manage requirements from enterprise-level governing documents through segment and lower-level specifications.
• Develop system-level verification and validation strategies, methods, success criteria, and requirements-to-test traceability.
• Evaluate contractor V&V plans, procedures, designs, test results, and operational concepts for mission compliance.
• Support test planning and integration across spacecraft, payload, network, ground, and user segments.
• Coordinate specification sell-off, technical reviews, proposed specification changes, and V&V status reporting to Government decision makers.
• Identify mission-closure risks, assess burn-down plans, support CONOPS development, and deliver technical analyses, recommendations, reports, and briefings.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship required.
• Active TS/SCI clearance with current polygraph required.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, or a related STEM discipline.
• At least 8 years of experience supporting space system development, integration, and test.
• Experience with systems engineering, requirements definition, system architecture, interface and data architecture, validation, verification, and the full systems development lifecycle.
• Knowledge of U.S. Government contracting, federal acquisition regulations, spacecraft lifecycle milestones, and review processes, together with strong technical communication skills.

Nice to have

• Master’s or Ph.D. in a related STEM discipline.
• 10+ years of relevant experience and work across multiple satellite programs or production lines.
• Experience with DoD or Intelligence Community projects, TCPED architectures, JIRA, and Confluence.
• Familiarity with model-based systems engineering, digital engineering, Agile, DevSecOps, and cloud technologies.
