TL;DR
Mission Engineer (Spacecraft) (Aerospace): Defining and architecting spacecraft missions and integrating advanced payload capabilities onto K2’s satellite bus platform with an accent on mission concepts, system architecture, payload-to-bus compatibility, and customer requirements. Focus on negotiating technical requirements, coordinating multidisciplinary spacecraft studies, and representing K2 Space in customer engagements and design reviews.

Location: Los Angeles, CA, United States

Salary: $115,000–$165,000 per year plus equity

What you will do

  • Define, mature, and negotiate mission concepts, including payload integration studies, mission analysis, system architecture trades, and concepts of operations.
  • Develop technical documentation covering system architectures, payload interfaces, spacecraft capabilities, requirements, and operations concepts.
  • Act as the primary technical interface for early customer engagements, technical discussions, study reviews, and negotiations.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary studies with vehicle engineering, avionics, software, propulsion, thermal, and AI&T teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
  • At least 2 years of experience in aerospace or space systems, working with spacecraft or related systems.
  • Hands-on experience designing, developing, integrating, or testing spacecraft or space systems.
  • Strong understanding of spacecraft subsystems, space system architectures, and mission modeling and simulation.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. person under ITAR rules or otherwise eligible for a federally issued export-control license.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree or higher in engineering.
  • At least 5 years of aerospace or space-industry experience, including spacecraft, launch vehicles, airborne systems, or payloads.
  • Experience with National Security customers and systems, satellite constellation modeling, payload performance analysis, or national security ground-system architectures.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
