Design Engineer (Consumer Products)

Location: New York, NY, hybrid with onsite work Tuesday through Thursday and remote work on Mondays and Fridays. Applicants must be authorized to work full-time in the United States.

Salary: $84,000–$105,000 annual base pay in New York City, plus bonus.

What you will do

• Lead the design-engineering portion of product development projects in collaboration with industrial designers.
• Design product architectures, mechanical solutions, mechanisms, and manufacturable assemblies.
• Create 3D CAD models and assemblies to evaluate product construction and performance.
• Build prototypes, proof-of-concept mock-ups, and mechanical subsystems to simulate product use cases.
• Present test results, design status, project risks, timelines, and performance updates to design teams and managers.
• Support products from initial design through pilot and first production, refining manufacturing and assembly processes with manufacturing partners.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Design.
• 2+ years of relevant full-time product development experience.
• Required portfolio in PDF or website format.
• Experience with new product design, engineering, and 3D CAD.
• Effective project management, collaboration, and communication skills.
• Hands-on workshop skills with hand tools, power tools, saws, drill presses, and grinders; ability to travel domestically as needed.

Nice to have

• Consultancy or consumer goods experience.
• Experience with Asian manufacturing and product manufacturing.
• SolidWorks, prototyping, and 3D printing experience.
• Experience designing plastics and injection-molded parts.
