TL;DR
Senior Mechanical Engineer (Electromechanical Devices): Developing and sustaining electromechanical products from initial concepts through production startup and post-release support with an accent on SolidWorks design, prototyping, testing, and manufacturability. Focus on building subsystem architectures, solving complex technical problems, evaluating test data, and guiding cross-functional engineering and production activities.

Location: Norwood, Massachusetts; must work in the office 4–5 days per week

Salary: $125,000–$145,000 annually

What you will do

  • Develop electromechanical design concepts, subsystem architectures, specifications, drawings, calculations, simulations, and cost estimates.
  • Design products and components for quality, manufacturability, functionality, reliability, cost, and serviceability.
  • Fabricate, assemble, test, and evaluate engineering prototypes, including product-specific investigations and technical analyses.
  • Prepare and review engineering documentation, bills of material, work instructions, schematics, and engineering change orders.
  • Support projects from concept through production startup and post-release sustaining activities, including troubleshooting with Manufacturing Engineering and Production.
  • Provide technical guidance, independent reviews, presentations, and mentorship to engineers and cross-functional stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 7–10+ years of experience designing, prototyping, and testing electromechanical devices.
  • At least five years of recent experience designing and documenting electromechanical products with SolidWorks.
  • Experience with electronic packaging, sheet-metal components, nonmetallic enclosures, materials selection, and fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Knowledge of motion-control systems, product architectures, design-for-manufacturability principles, engineering documentation standards, and product testing.
  • Ability to work in the Norwood office 4–5 days per week, manage multiple priorities, communicate technical decisions clearly, and mentor junior engineers.

Nice to have

  • Experience with SolidWorks Product Data Management.
  • Experience evaluating emerging technologies, materials, components, and processes for product applications.
