Senior Mechanical Engineer (Coffee Technology)

Location: On-site in Grand Rapids, Michigan; must be based in the Grand Rapids area. Remote and hybrid arrangements are not available.

hirify.global is partnering with a technology startup developing coffee brewing and pod production solutions focused on coffee, technology, and sustainability.

What you will do

• Lead the mechanical design, optimization, and testing of coffee brewing technology, including injection-molded plastic parts for mass production.
• Design, build, integrate, and maintain specialized manufacturing and packaging equipment for coffee pods.
• Create and test prototypes using 3D printing, CNC machining, laser cutting, thermal profiling, and endurance testing.
• Transition designs from prototypes to scaled production through DFM, component sourcing, supplier collaboration, and assembly documentation.
• Troubleshoot automation hardware, sensors, electrical and embedded controls, and manufacturing cell infrastructure.
• Install and adjust equipment in the workshop and production area, resolve mechanical breakdowns, and support safe, efficient production.

Requirements

• 7–10 years of mechanical engineering experience, ideally in consumer products, appliances, or consumer electronics.
• Strong knowledge of CAD, mechanical design, tolerance analysis, material selection, and fabrication methods.
• Experience with machining, 3D printing, sheet metal, injection molding, prototyping, and manufacturing readiness.
• Hands-on mindset with the ability to work on the shop floor and manage projects from concept through commercial deployment.
• Startup flexibility, comfort with ambiguity, and willingness to handle cross-functional technical challenges.
• Must be based in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area; remote and hybrid work are unavailable.

Nice to have

• Experience with consumer products, appliances, or consumer electronics.
• Experience working with local and international machine shops or suppliers.
