Senior Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid, requiring 3 days per week in office in New York City or Boston metro areas; applicants in the Research Triangle, North Carolina, and San Francisco Bay Area may also be considered. Applicants must reside in these locations or be willing to relocate.

Total compensation: $185,500–$232,000 annually, plus equity, comprehensive benefits, and perks.

What you will do

• Own product and platform outcomes from problem definition through design, implementation, launch, and iteration.
• Build and operate production services, APIs, integrations, databases, asynchronous workflows, and distributed systems.
• Develop software for people, applications, AI-enabled employees, and agents, including permissions, state management, observability, and failure handling.
• Design and ship AI-enabled and agentic workflows involving tool use, retrieval, data access, evaluation, and human review.
• Partner with Data Engineering, Data Science, and SRE on data models, ML capabilities, deployment, reliability, security, and infrastructure.
• Review designs and code, mentor engineers, and communicate technical tradeoffs across technical and non-technical teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building and shipping production software, or equivalent senior-level experience.
• Strong backend and systems fundamentals, including APIs, distributed systems, databases, cloud services, and asynchronous workflows.
• Daily experience using AI tools, LLMs, or agentic development systems in engineering workflows.
• Experience operating production software with appropriate testing, observability, security, and post-launch follow-through.
• Strong product judgment, adaptability, and the ability to make progress with incomplete information.
• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills across engineering, data, SRE, and non-technical teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with pharmaceutical, biology, or biotechnology software and data.
• Experience building AI-enabled software, agentic workflows, retrieval systems, tool integrations, or ML-powered products.
• Familiarity with training versus inference, embeddings, retrieval, evaluation, data quality, and model limitations.
• Full-stack range with emphasis on backend, systems, product, and AI engineering.
