Avionics Software Test Engineer (Python)

What you will do

• Design and implement Python software for automated testing of flight-critical avionics hardware.
• Manage avionics test-system software from initial development through qualification and acceptance testing of production hardware.
• Integrate test equipment with avionics hardware and collaborate with test and avionics engineers to resolve automation challenges.
• Define test requirements, recommend equipment solutions, and troubleshoot anomalies through root-cause analysis.
• Extend the Python test automation framework with new capabilities and tooling.
• Create documentation and user guides, conduct code reviews, and support software engineering standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or another engineering or physical science discipline.
• Proficiency in object-oriented Python and experience interfacing software with instrumentation hardware.
• Experience with data acquisition systems such as National Instruments or similar modular DAQ solutions.
• Experience with version control, software unit testing, and CI/CD.
• Strong documentation and communication skills, including proficiency with AI coding assistants and workflows.
• Must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing under U.S. export control requirements.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with NASA SMC-S-016 test requirements and standards.
• Experience with AWS, Linux, embedded systems, C++, and electronic instrumentation using SCPI and pyVISA.
• Experience with power supplies, electronic loads, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and digital multimeters.
• Knowledge of TCP/UDP, DHCP, Ethernet, and data acquisition communication standards.
• Experience building test visualization and control interfaces with React, Angular, or similar frameworks.
