Senior Software Engineer, Applied AI

Location: Remote, United States. Applicants must already be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, visa transfer support, or other immigration-related support. The role includes remote interviews and an on-site visit to the corporate office during the hiring process.

Salary: $165,000–$205,000 annual base salary, plus bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Build and extend LLM-backed capabilities on AWS Bedrock for clinical document OCR and extraction, summarization, decision support, retrieval, and internal workflow automation.
• Establish evaluations for AI features and monitor quality drift, structured outputs, failure modes, cost, and latency.
• Design, build, test, and ship backend and frontend features across Python, FastAPI, MySQL, AWS, Jinja2, Tailwind, and Alpine.js.
• Use Claude Code and Kiro as part of the development workflow and verify their output.
• Develop integrations for eligibility, accumulator, and claims data using NCPDP D.0, X12 270/271, SFTP, and file-based formats.
• Improve testing, linting, CI, written specifications, prompts, and design notes while treating PHI protection as a core design constraint.

Requirements

• 7+ years of production software engineering experience with ownership of systems used by others.
• Strong Python, production FastAPI or comparable asynchronous framework experience, SQL with MySQL or Postgres, and working knowledge of AWS.
• Experience with server-rendered frontends using Jinja2, Tailwind, Alpine.js, or htmx; React specialization is not required.
• Fluency in Linux and comfort using a Windows workstation to access a secure Linux environment through remote desktop.
• At least one LLM-powered feature shipped to real users, plus practical knowledge of prompt and context engineering, retrieval, embeddings, structured output, and AI evaluation.
• Working knowledge of healthcare data exchange standards and integrations, including NCPDP D.0, X12 270/271, SFTP, fixed-width and delimited formats, and reconciliation.

Nice to have

• Healthcare or regulated-data experience, including HIPAA, PHI, or SOC 2.
• Pharmacy benefits, claims, or clinical program experience.
• Experience self-hosting open-source models with vLLM, Ollama, or TGI, including GPU sizing, quantization, and private-network serving.
• Fine-tuning, adapter training, classical machine learning, or production model monitoring experience.
• Master's degree in computer science or a related field.
