Staff Software Engineer (AI Payments)

Location: Remote in the United States or Canada. Employees living within 30 miles of an office location follow a hybrid schedule with some in-person time. What you will do

• Architect Python and FastAPI services for secure, production-critical agentic payment flows.
• Design APIs and domain models for card enrollment, token provisioning, purchase intents, mandates, device attestation, OTP flows, confirmations, and cryptogram retrieval.
• Drive security, scalability, availability, performance, and developer experience for payment and cryptographic workflows.
• Build observability patterns for error handling, traceability, structured logging, metrics, and distributed tracing.
• Design Kubernetes-based provisioning workflows and define unit, integration, acceptance, and end-to-end testing strategies.
• Lead technical design reviews and cross-functional initiatives with Product, Security, Infrastructure, Platform, and card-network partners.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience owning outcomes in complex, large-scale distributed systems and mission-critical environments.
• Advanced AWS experience with Terraform and reproducible infrastructure.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, EKS, Docker, and GitOps workflows using Flux, Argo, or GitHub Actions.
• Strong Python coding skills for infrastructure automation and operational tooling.
• Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry at scale.
• Understanding of cloud security, API gateways, load balancing, and network isolation.

Nice to have

• Experience with tokenization, payment processing, or security products.
• Experience designing mandate, credential-provisioning, authentication, attestation, or cryptogram-based workflows.
• Experience applying AI developer tools or agentic automation to engineering workflows.
• BA or BS degree.
