Staff Engineer (AI)

Location: Sydney, Australia, with 3 days in the office required. Relocation from overseas to Australia is supported.

What you will do

• Set technical direction for load-bearing decisions across frontier AI products.
• Build and ship autonomous AI agent capabilities and solve the company’s highest-leverage technical problems.
• Define AI-native engineering practices, including agentic workflows, context engineering, evaluations, and review standards.
• Improve the trustworthiness and reliability of autonomous agents in production through incident analysis and systemic fixes.
• Partner with product, design, and customer teams to prioritize and deliver valuable outcomes.
• Interview, mentor, and develop engineers across the organization.

Requirements

• Staff-level experience building AI-native products and using coding agents to decompose problems and run build-and-evaluate loops.
• Deep engineering expertise in backend systems, APIs, distributed systems, and high-impact technical decisions.
• Strong product judgment and experience connecting engineering work to customer outcomes.
• Experience improving engineering teams, unblocking others, and establishing standards adopted across teams.
• Ability to ship quickly while maintaining quality, evaluation discipline, on-call readiness, and root-cause resolution.
• Ability to work from the Sydney office 3 days per week, or relocate to Australia.

Nice to have

• Experience with React, Vue, TypeScript, Express, Node, Python, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, AWS, Vercel, Terraform, or Kubernetes.
• Experience with AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex.
