Staff Engineer, Fullstack (Medical Imaging)

Location: Hybrid position based in the New York City office, with team members spending two or more days per week in the office. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must not require current or future employment visa sponsorship.

Salary: Approximately $200,000 annually, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Build critical enterprise clinical workflow systems for Butterfly Cloud.
• Design and solve distributed systems problems involving elasticity, reliability, performance, and automated validation.
• Develop scalable platform features such as global search, audit logging, user and organization administration, and entitlement management.
• Apply modern cloud architecture and distributed systems practices to mission-critical healthcare software.
• Own business problems, create system designs, and lead developers through execution.
• Mentor and lead other engineers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience solving distributed systems or web development problems.
• Track record of mentoring engineers.
• Willingness to work across different layers of the stack and unfamiliar problem domains.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Ability to work in a hybrid model from the New York City office.
• U.S. work authorization without current or future employment visa sponsorship requirements.

Nice to have

• GraphQL and frameworks such as Relay, Apollo, or URQL.
• Experience with LLMs and MLOps.
• Containerization and orchestration with Docker, ECS, or EKS.
• Live-update web applications using pub/sub systems such as Redis and WebSockets.
• Observability, monitoring, logging, metrics, React, TypeScript, OpenSearch, or Lucene-based search engines.
• Knowledge of HIPAA, PHI, and PII compliance.
