Senior Backend Engineer (API Enterprise)

Location: London (Hybrid)

DeepL is a global AI product and research company building the Operating System for Global Communication through advanced Language AI.

What you will do

• Drive enterprise API adoption by building features like usage insights, cost controls, and governance tooling.
• Design and implement security controls including RBAC, data residency, and audit-ability for regulated global organizations.
• Own services end-to-end, participating in on-call rotations and pushing for four nines of reliability.
• Architect cohesive enterprise capabilities by navigating dependencies across multiple stakeholder teams.
• Implement strong contract testing, monitoring, and SLOs to prevent breaking changes.

Requirements

• Deep expertise in backend development using C# and .NET.
• Strong fundamentals in RESTful API design and distributed system architecture.
• Experience with enterprise API building blocks such as OAuth, CLIs, and modern integration patterns.
• Proven track record of leading cross-team projects and managing complex technical dependencies.
• Operational mindset with experience in production operations, incident response, and reliability engineering.
• Must be able to work in a hybrid model with office attendance in London.

Nice to have

• Experience with zero-downtime migrations on live systems.
• Knowledge of metering, quota, or usage-data systems.
• Background in compliance environments such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, or C5.
• Frontend experience with React and TypeScript.
